Setting up a new Google TV is easier when you make the important choices in the right order. This guide uses the current StarSat Google 50-inch UHD Smart TV as the reference product and focuses on practical first-day checks that also apply to other StarSat Google TV sizes.
The aim is not to rush through every prompt. It is to finish with a stable network connection, the right profile, sensible picture settings and connected devices that behave as expected.
Before you start your StarSat Google TV setup
Choose a stable stand or a compatible wall mount, leave room for ventilation and make sure the power socket, network connection and HDMI cables are easy to reach. If you are wall-mounting the screen, use the checks in our TV wall-mount compatibility guide before installation.
Have your Wi-Fi name and password ready. A Google Account is useful for personalised recommendations, app installation and profile syncing, but Google also provides a manual setup path when phone-based setup is not convenient.
1. Check placement, cables and inputs
Place the television where the screen is not exposed to strong direct light and where the vents are not blocked. Connect external devices only to ports that match their cable and purpose; never force a connector. The official StarSat product page lists HDMI 2.1, USB 3.0 and Ethernet connectivity for the 50-inch model, so plan which source belongs on each input before cables become difficult to reach.

2. Pair the remote and select the correct region
Turn on the TV and follow the on-screen remote-pairing instructions. Google notes that some remotes arrive already paired; when pairing is needed, the screen will show the correct button combination. Select the language and region you actually use because the home-screen tabs, available apps and content recommendations can vary by country and language.
3. Choose phone setup or manual setup
Google TV can offer a QR-code flow that transfers parts of the setup to a phone. Google also documents a manual option: move down on the QR-code screen and choose Set up on TV instead or Manual setup. Use the method you are most comfortable with and follow the prompts shown on your TV, because the exact onboarding flow can vary by model and software version.
4. Connect to the right network
Select your own secured Wi-Fi network or use Ethernet when that is more practical. If streaming is slow, Google recommends confirming that the TV is connected to the correct network, checking the router, moving it closer or using a wired connection. Do not assume that every app problem is a TV fault: first verify the network and try another app or video.
5. Install system updates before adding everything
Open Settings > System > About > System update and check for updates. The wording may differ slightly after future software releases, so follow the labels visible on your screen. Completing available updates early can reduce the chance of troubleshooting an issue that has already been fixed.
6. Add the right profile and streaming services
Google TV supports more than one user profile. Each person can sign in with a Google Account and choose the streaming services used by that profile. This is useful in a shared household because recommendations and activity can remain associated with the correct viewer. If you want a simpler shared interface, Google also documents Apps only mode, which hides personalised recommendations for the selected profile.

7. Adjust picture and sound after setup content is playing
The StarSat 50-inch Google TV product page lists 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support. Whether a particular film, app or connected device uses those formats depends on the source, service, subscription, cable and content. Start with a normal picture mode, then make small adjustments while real content is playing. Our TV picture settings guide explains brightness, contrast, colour temperature and motion controls without relying on one universal preset.
8. Test casting, HDMI sources and everyday controls
The official StarSat page lists built-in Chromecast, so test casting from a device on the same network. Then switch through every connected HDMI source, confirm that picture and sound are present, and label inputs if the TV offers that option. Test volume, mute, Home, Back and voice control while you still have easy access to the cables.
A five-minute final check
- The TV is stable, ventilated and clear of direct heat or moisture.
- The correct region, language, network and profile are selected.
- System updates have been checked.
- Each HDMI source produces picture and sound.
- Streaming and casting work on the home network.
- Picture and sound settings have been tested with real content.
If the screen later needs cleaning, use a clean dry microfiber cloth first and follow our safe TV-screen cleaning guide.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a phone to set up a StarSat Google TV?
No. Google documents both phone-assisted setup and a manual option completed with the TV remote. The available flow can vary by model and software version.
Can different people have separate Google TV profiles?
Yes. Google TV supports multiple profiles, letting household members sign in separately and choose their own streaming services.
Why should I update the TV before installing many apps?
Checking for system updates early helps ensure the setup starts from the current software available to that TV. It can also prevent you from troubleshooting behaviour already addressed by an update.
Does every video automatically use Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos?
No. The StarSat 50-inch model lists support for these formats, but actual playback depends on the app, title, subscription, source device, connection and content format.
